The Roman emperors decorated theirs with lions, the Ancient chinese decorated their front doors with Lions (stone guardians), and a few other cultures too (even King Herod and King Solomon of Ancient Yizrael!!), I've seen some Turkish design in Turkish spa that also feature lions.
